In this paper, the basic concept, implementation mechanism and methods of heterogeneous database interoperation are presented in computer integrated manufacturing systems (CIMS). An event-driven client/server architecture of the heterogeneous database interoperation platform is proposed, and its prototype system has been implemented in the CIMS System Technology Laboratory
