As a hotspot in the field of welding, intelligent seam tracking techniques could improve the flexibility of the equipment dramatically, better the working condition, cut the manufacturing cost. A co-simulation was implemented on a set of binocular autonomous welding system in the laboratory using the powerful virtual Prototype software ADAMS and controlling software SIMULINK Factors like control period, welding speed and seam slope are taken into consideration. To keep the maximum tracking error under 0.5mm while tracking a curved sine seam, optimum values for control period and welding speed are obtained respectively. The Co-simulation result provides a lot of valuable data for the mechanical and control design of the experimental system, thus improving design quality and efficiency.
