There are large quantities of heat produced in the machining process of cartridge type structures(58SiMn steel) is wasted, it is necessary to recycle and make use of these heat from the perspective of environmental protection and energy saving. In this paper the waste heat recovery system that based on heating pump were analyzed, including the system composition, working principle, the thermal parameters, etc. Much influence to the technology, properties and material of the cartridge type structures were brought because of the building up of the waste heat recovery system. In order to satisfy the service property of the cartridge type structures, the metallographic analysis method were established after the processes changes with the seasons that the cylinder parts was measured on the spot. Type of tube was conducted for different temperatures (750°C-850°C) through the heating time 2min to a stable metallographic holding time of 10min, after that, the metallographic microstructure of the samples was observed, finally, the changing of the samples before and after heat treatment were compared and analyzed. Based on the analysis, the results have proved that the mechanical property of the cartridge type structures will not to be brought down after 970°C in the waste heat recovery system. This research shows that waste heat recovery system which is used in the production of the cartridge type structures is effective.
