Stabilization is considered to be a well-established disposal technique to reduce sludge handling and disposal obstacles. A sludge modifier which comprises a mixture of three cementitious components was proposed for sludge drying and stabilization. The application of uniform design and its corresponding mathematical modeling and Simulated Annealing optimization methodology are investigated to optimize the modifier formula. Meanwhile, effect of sludge modifier components and curing time on sludge moisture content was analyzed. The results showed that the optimum ratio of modifier component was cement clinker/dihydrate gypsum/quicklime=0.666:0.051:0.283 and the optimized modifier exhibited more effective sludge drying and stabilization than quicklime. Different from thermally treatment of sludge, this work presents a potentially economical and convenient method for sludge drying and stabilization.
