In recent years, power system operators have striven for greater understanding of the dynamic behaviour of wind turbine generators and the implications for power system stability, particularly at high penetration levels. In this paper, a novel framework is described for the modelling of power systems combining synchronous and asynchronous machines and inverters, in a constant 50 Hz rotating reference frame. It is shown how this framework may be applied to questions of oscillatory or small-signal stability, in particular the relationship between drivetrain oscillations in wind generators and power system oscillations.
