Stretching the brain to fit: a step towards automatically segmenting, orienting and registering SPECT brain images

A procedure has been developed to automatically orientate, register and fit single photon emission computer tomographic images of the brain. The reconstructed transaxial slices are centred and aligned using a guided, iterative correlation technique, correcting for translation and 'yaw'. Then the resulting sagittal views are 'pitch' corrected using a regression method. The coronal slices produced subsequently are 'roll' corrected, again using the guided, iterative correlation method. Finally, the resulting transaxial slices are delineated using an active shape model and then stretched onto a pseudo standard model.<
