A comparative study of different configurations of an axial-flux nine-phase concentrated-winding permanent-magnet synchronous generator for direct-drive wind turbine is presented. Two-dimensional finite-element analyses are used to find the best configurations. An analytical sizing model is built and validated with measurements on a small-scale prototype. An optimization process is used to minimize the total active mass and to maximize the power factor. Pareto fronts highlight the best configuration and design parameter values.
