In this paper, we discusses a new networked control systems (NCS), embedded Ethernet control system (EECS). Compared with traditional NCS, EECS has many different features. Network nodes of EECS are often not PCs and workstations, but smart controllers with sensors and actuators based on cost-effective high-performance micro-controller solution for embedded systems, which can run complex embedded operating systems and advanced control algorithms. General design methods of smart nodes based on ARM micro-controller for EECS are emphasized. As an example, we designed a smart node for EECS. An embedded operating system (EOS) Linux, which is a stable, open source and free operating system, is used in this smart node to realize real-time control and highspeed data acquisition based on EECS. Experimental results show that the system is effective and reliable.
