Application of existing harmonic standards to an electric utility power system involves many practical issues. They include designing an efficient procedure to evaluate the acceptability of an installation, specifying rational conditions to perform evaluation, and defining equitable limits to check acceptability. In this paper, how BC Hydro addresses these problems in its recently developed harmonic guide is described. The purpose is to share BC Hydro's experiences with other electric utilities on the development of practical regulations to prevent harmonic-related problems
