A method for the automatic recognition of music staves based on a prediction-and-check technique is presented in order to extract staves. It can detect lines with some curvature, discontinuities, and inclination. Lines are asserted to be a part of a staff if they can be grouped by five, thus completing the staff. This last phase also identifies additional staff lines
