The driving force behind the economic miracle of Taiwan has been the gradual evolution of the economy from agricultural industry of the 50s to the high-tech industry of the 90s. In shaping the restructuring of the nation's industry, the government has focused its main energies on 10 strategic industries, among them the information industry. With a total output value of USD10.88 billion in 1993 and ranked 9th among domestic industries in 1992 Taiwan's information industry is projected to reach USD33 billion by the year 2002
