This paper presents the project of harmonious control between a HVDC simulation's rectifier and inverter. A new design of digital controller based on the powerful 16-bit single-chip-microcomputer (SCMC) MCS-96, which provides high firing time resolution and enough computing power to implement sophisticated control strategies, is presented. It was desired to minimize functions performed by external hardware as much as possible by using the SCMS's self-functions and software. The software programmed functions such as voltage dependent current order limiters, the development of algorithms to execute constant current, constant firing-angle and constant extinction-angle are described. In this project, the controller can choose a different control mode to adapt the simulation, according to the different situations of rectifier and inverter, so as to ensure the simulation will be operated reliably. The results demonstrating the performance are presented
