A novel cross-layer routing technique was proposed for ad hoc networks with multi-rate mechanism based on node monitoring information. Combining SNR measure on physical layer and delay estimate on MAC layer, we propose a routing metric which selects the route with wide bandwidth, lower delay and less congestion. The routing technique is shown to improve performance of ad hoc network significantly.
