The authors present the realization details and results of a real-time digital simulator of a power transmission line. This digital simulator is tested with controlled power interfaces such that the combination can now be incorporated into a Transient Network Analyzer (TNA) or other analogue type power system simulator. The digital simulator has high speed and good stability. The simulator uses a third generation digital signal processor TMS320C30 and achieves a time step of 50 μs. Whereas the realization of new improved digital simulator of a transmission line is an important step in the eventual realization, of a totally digital real time simulator, the authors also demonstrate the other important aspect of its immediate application in physical component analogue simulators like TNA and HVDC simulators. For the latter, controlled power amplifiers are utilized as the interface for the connection of the transmission line model on the network
