The role of indoor traffic in 3G mobile communication networks will be even more important than in 2G since many of the expected multimedia high bit rate services will be originated inside buildings. In case of W-CDMA based 3G networks, the importance will be even higher because of the power based management in the radio interface. In this context, This work presents a model to assess the impact of indoor traffic over uplink cell capacity in different scenarios. As a result, it provides enough information to the network operator to decide how important is in every scenario to make the transition from outdoor macrocells to micro and picocells.
