Modern media brings new educational strategies and helps to change the content of science education. It can improve student's understanding of fundamental concepts. Multimedia laboratory tools enable to realize student's active learning. The effectiveness of the proper use of modern technologies in education is highly determined by the level of teacher's preparation. This paper presents a proposal of teacher's competence in the field of information technologies. Science teachers can obtain such competence by participation in the system of further education courses. The author presents the experience and results of distance education courses aimed at teacher's competence for using modern media in science education.
