A semi-blind multiuser detector based on auxiliary-vector (AV) is proposed for the inverse link of mobile cellular DS-CDMA communication systems. Distinguished from the recently developed blind AV detectors, which are a class of promising candidates for adaptive multiuser detection, the new detector makes full use of the signature waveforms of all known users at the base station to cancel the intra-cell multiple access interference (MAI) while blindly suppressing the inter-cell MAI with auxiliary vectors. Simulation results indicate that the semi-blind AV detector significantly outperforms the blind AV detectors with modest computational complexity increase.
