The World Wide Web is growing rapidly with new and changing Web content. Detecting changes in Web pages from the client side is crucial for Web surfers who want the newest information on the Web site. Instead of pull-based browsing, update monitoring is a promising area of research where the system brings the right information to the right user at the right time. In this paper we present the design and implementation of the THMonitor system, designed for update monitoring over Web information sources. In contrast to normal monitors which focus on how to detect changes of a Web page in detail, the THMonitor has two features: (1) it fetches different pages of a whole Web site at different frequencies that are determined by updating frequencies, and (2) using the method mentioned above, THMonitor will keep updating information of a Web site using fewer Internet resources.
