A compiler for programming the SPS developed COMPASS signal processor is described. COMPASS has a modular, multiprocessor architecture which provides high throughput and highly efficient operation. The COMPASS source language is a FORTRAN based, problem oriented language in which signal processing applications can be programmed independently of the particular hardware configuration on which it is to be run and yet allows the user to explicitly control the degree of concurrency achieved at execution time.
