This paper presents a simplified bit allocation algorithm for OFDM multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems that uses V-BLAST as a detection algorithm. The advantage of our approach is that only minimal feedback of information back to the transmitter is required while still maintaining good performance. We demonstrate by computer simulation that the proposed simplified bit allocation algorithm can significantly improve the system performance and still maintain a reasonable feedback loading compared to the traditional V-BLAST for an OFDM MIMO system in a frequency selective fading channel model
