A new subspace tracking approach that directly operates on the projection matrix onto the signal subspace instead of tracking its unitary eigenbasis is proposed. Therefore, the difficulties arising from introducing a calculus on the manifold of projection matrices are overcome by a proper parameterization of the projectors. Simulation results are presented from the field of angular frequency retrieval in array signal processing
