The authors describe the mechanical and electrical characteristics of a conductor with suppressed aeolian noise and its application to actual lines. The development results were: a smoothened conductor surface with a small-sized protrusion efficiently reduces aeolian noise; a new type of conductor with a 45°, 2.5 mm thick protrusion reduces aeolian noise by 10 dB or more; wind load is the same as that of the conventional conductor; the hum level at 100 Hz in a wet conductor condition is almost 10 dB lower than that of a conductor with SP rods; conventional accessories and construction methods are applicable to this conductor; no complaints about noise have been made since it was constructed; and a new accessory silicon rubber cap has been developed to prevent aerodynamic noise produced by insulators
