In the automotive industry vehicles are undergoing significant change, with much of the traditional mechanical control emphasis moving to distributed electronic systems. The article looks at an emerging time-triggered scheme, which is being retrofitted to the well known in-vehicle controller area network. This new time-triggered CAN will guarantee reliable scheduling of control messages within the automotive electronics environment.
