We present an XML based messaging model in JavaSpaces, called JSMS (JavaSpaces Messaging Service). We use XML to express messages which are exchanged between applications with a tree structure. Using DOM-API or SAX-API, we can access messages in XML-form, and are able to use the information within the message. Thus, if a message is defined with XML, messaging based on the content of message can be realized. Furthermore, in order to implement persistent storage of messages, we employ a distributed object technology called JavaSpaces. JavaSpaces allows persistency and transaction processing. Moreover, using JavaSpaces, the protocol considered processes XML-form message strongly. This protocol is a concept called message-tree. This paper introduces how to define a message by XML, the message-tree, and the composition of the JSMS system
