Delay profile measurements were carried out in a residential area using a 5-GHz band. We found that the delay profiles are generated from three wave components: the front wave component, a distinct peak wave component, and another component such as multiple reflected or diffracted waves. We propose a new delay profile model that includes these wave components. Although the delay profile model for a similar situation has been proposed, the above delay profile such as that having distinct peaks has not been studied. These distinct peaks strongly affect the results of the delay wave characteristics. Therefore, this paper proposes a new delay profile model that deals with the distinct peak components. The model is derived based on the measured delay profile characteristics in a residential area and the study of "visibility". The mechanism producing the delay profile is revealed in terms of "visibility". The visibility between a point and another point is defined by the probability that the line-of-sight path is not blocked by the buildings existing between both points.
