In 1998, a joint task force of the IEEE Computer Society and the Association for Computing Machinery set out to develop a set of undergraduate curricular guidelines that would match the latest developments of computing technologies in the past decade and endure through the next decade. To meet this daunting challenge, the task force decided that, instead of attempting a definitive work that covered all aspects of computing, they would prepare an overview volume and create or solicit curricular guides for a number of subfields. The Ironman Draft of Computing Curricula 2001 (<>) consists of a detailed review of curricula which are appropriate for computer science programs, as well as the basic structure for the component volumes
