The suggested. natural surface scattering model is called the amplitude/phase-model; it has a simple structure and its use is straightforward. It is general in the sense that it makes no explicit assumptions about the degree of roughness of the surface. Experiments were performed on surfaces with different degree of roughness. The experiments were performed at 1625 MHz, relevant for UMTS and GSM1800. The new model shows a closer fit compared to the other models under test: the plane surface model, the Oren model, the Kirchoff model and the small perturbation model. The average errors for these traditional models are between approximately 1.5 dB and 5 dB poorer than the new model. The traditional models have very varying performance with roughness. Closest to the A/P-model comes the Kirchoff model, which also is quite robust, having an error 1.5 dB worse than the amplitude/phase model on average
