Several comments are presented for the reduction of the fuzzy rule base in the paper of Yam et al. (1999). In their paper, the approach to determine the number of singular values necessary for the reduction process to obtain the effective and most efficient fuzzy rule base is not provided. Although the output error of the fuzzy controller is bounded, the performance of the system output may not be satisfied. Moreover, the computation load is increased for each input of the fuzzy mechanism since the input membership functions are modified.
