A physical model for both optical gain and rise time of a QW-structure optoelectronic integrated device (QW-OEID) is outlined. Based on the model, it is found that the device works in two different modes, which are: amplification, for small optical feedback, switching, for high feedback. The effects of parameters such as internal optical feedback and optical gain of carriers, for both amplification and switching modes of operations are considered in the model
