A novel adaptive clustering protocol called the mobile clustering protocol is presented. It uses less control overhead than those proposed thus far, supports node mobility excellently and maintains the stability and robustness of the network architecture. Furthermore, the proposed intelligent control scheme of gateways prevents them becoming bottlenecks between two clusters with different channels. It also avoids gateways missing packets on their non-sensing channels. Simulation and numerical results are shown to confirm the system performance
