The authors propose a novel wide area access ring network utilising super-dense WDM technologies that offer 256 12.5 GHz spaced optical wavelengths. A multi-optical carrier generation scheme from one optical source is employed to reduce the optical transmitter cost. This network can cost-effectively provide gigabit access services
