Implementation of various multiple expert decision combination approaches for recognition of machine printed characters involves costs in terms of number of processing elements and the overall layout of the decision fusion hierarchy. The paper investigates the relationship between the implementation cost and the performance achieved by these approaches. Seven different multiple expert decision combination approaches have been investigated in terms of this cost versus performance profile
