Soft decoding of linear block codes is considered over a Gaussian channel. A noncoherent soft decision differential phase detector that operates on many preselected regions is considered for detection. Numerical results demonstrate the improvement of soft decoding over hard decoding and the effect of the number of regions in the phase detector
