Effective object segmentation is achieved by applying a novel data-modulated nonlinear diffusion technique. The advantages of this strategy are a considerable smoothing of the detail of the scene image within the boundaries of the object while inhibiting the diffusion across the boundaries, as well as preserving and even enhancing the object borders
