In this paper, an active suspension system is regarded as a control object. A quarter-car model is used to implement an LMI-based mixed H2/H∞ approach with reference model. The results are compared with those obtained with H∞ control. The main purpose of the controller is to achieve vibration isolation between different parts of the system. Some constraints must be considered, such as limited actuator force, good track-holding capability and limited suspension travel. The purpose and the constraints can be formulated as an optimality criterion. Careful tuning of weighting functions are necessary for H∞ design method
