This paper examines new applications for the digital subscriber loop (DSL) technology (high speed transmission over copper cables) in military and industrial applications, including results of field deployment trials by the Australian Army. A modern military force depends on reliable communications to ensure field success. That's why it is vital for a communications system must be fully capable of handling high data rates, be simple to install and offer flexibility of wide range of applications. That is where the new patented Portable xDSL System offers a way forward for secure field transmission equipment. In this paper an overview of xDSL technology is followed by a detailed introduction of the P3 concept (Portable 3 channel Rate Adaptive DSL, [RADSL] Transmission System) and a review of a number of the system's potential applications
