Hybrid LIDAR-radar: Seeing through the scatter

Improvements in optical transmitter and receiver design and development have resulted in an increased use of optical techniques for remote sensing applications. A hybrid LIDAR-radar system has been developed that combines the detection and signal-processing techniques of radar with the optical propagation characteristics of LIDAR. The hybrid LIDAR-radar approach has been applied to both pulsed- and continuous-wave underwater laser imaging systems. These two systems are the modulated-pulse LIDAR (MPL) system and the modulated-laser line scanner (MLLS).
