Cement plants are looking at automating the myriad of things to cut production costs and improve quality. In the QC department at the Leamington Plant a decision was made to use the newly developed online light scattering technology to control cement fineness. The online analyzer installation contributed to a record cement production year in 1999 by tightening control of the cement fineness. In November of 1998 a real time particle size analyzer was purchased from Malvern/Insitec and installed on the finish milling system. This paper describes the online analyzer and its implementation at the plant. The operating experience with the analyzer is discussed
