User-level networking (ULN) is now becoming an important technology to expose the high performance of network hardware, which is advancing much faster than communication software. The exposure of all underlying memory management to high-level software gives us a good chance to design a highly efficient, application-specific communication substrate. In this paper, we present our ongoing work on designing JMCL (JIAJIA-specific Myrinet-based Communication Library), a high-performance communication substrate which is specific to JIAJIA, a home-based software DSM (distributed shared memory) system.
