In this paper adaptive equalizers for lapped multitone systems are investigated. Starting from a unified approach to multicarrier modulation using filter banks, block multitone systems like discrete multitone (DMT) and lapped multitone systems like discrete wavelet multitone (DWMT) are presented Then the structure of the resulting matrix channel is investigated. After that, linear feed forward equalizers and nonlinear decision feedback equalizers for matrix channels are introduced and adapted to the special structure of the channel. This leads to adaptive equalizers for lapped multitone systems with reduced complexity. These algorithms are investigated in a VDSL scenario.
