A novel area CCD and ministep prism based electronic scanning device is described. This can be used to replace the mechanical scanners or multichannel detectors in coherence-multiplexed optical fibre sensor systems. Preliminary experiments have been performed on a quasidistributed pressure sensor to confirm the basic principle and to evaluate the system performance.
