This paper presents an alternative approach to generalized predictive control (GPC) by introducing a new cost function. The main idea is to use a new time varying weighting function, which has the potential of reducing the amount of computation needed and providing better performance, stability and robustness compared with traditional GPC. To take full advantage of the new algorithm, a broad analysis is proposed to help the engineer in selecting suitable parameters without being entangled in trial and error, which could lead to difficulties in system operation
