This paper covers experimental methods required to determine low power losses in the presence of large reactive powers as encountered in reactive energy storage components. The device of interest is a planar inductor and loss measurements are required to validate theoretical FEM loss calculations. Thermally controlled in-situ experiments are performed at different frequencies to determine the frequency dependent losses in the inductor
