The most important problems of designing a 12-bit high-speed CMOS D/A converter are studied. A modified current steering architecture is presented. It is shown how this architecture allows one to implement a new two dimensional centroid switching scheme that, combined with circuit and layout techniques, makes it possible to achieve simultaneously high update rates, 12-bit accuracy, and good dynamic characteristics
