Mobile positioning is one of the services which can be offered by CDMA network operators. There are several mobile positioning applications such as, locating lost or stolen mobiles, emergency calls, street directory applications and CDMA network self optimisation. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the USA has mandated that all mobile phones will have a mobile positioning capability for emergency `E911 calls' with an RMS error of 125 meters, in 67% of the locations. The CDMA Development Group (CDG) has already proposed a scheme in the IS95B for E911 calls using reverse link channels. This paper analyses the accuracy of mobile positioning using standard CDMA mobile terminals in live networks. Real time measurements that were performed by using standard CDMA mobile terminals are presented
