A special set of orthogonal Golay complementary sequences is proposed for inclusion in the third generation cellular standard to be used as the set of synchronisation preambles for the random access channel. Besides excellent correlation properties, such sequences offer an efficient hardware implementation of the corresponding correlators based on the so-called efficient Golay correlator (EGG). This kind of correlator is derived here
