The field of Tissue Engineering is currently limited in the range of biomaterials available for development of tissue engineered products. In the creation of new tissue engineered products, the biomaterial should be biocompatible, and shapeable into the designed structure. The surface should retain a fine structure and the material should have the potential for tethering growth factors and adhesion molecules. The authors have recently developed a biomaterial, which embodies the characteristics necessary for a tissue-engineered scaffold. Salubria-TM biomaterial is based on an organic molecule, which has been used in FlDA approved products. The mechanical properties of Salubria biomaterial are more physiologic than other biomaterials. This paper presents data regarding several of the desirable properties of this material as a tissue-engineering scaffold
