In this paper the cell loss ratio (CLR) performance of constant bit rate (CBR) traffic on wireless asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) access network which consists of an access node and a wireless channel is evaluated. It is focused on the impact of the bit error characteristics of a wireless link on wireless ATM access networks. A possible error control architecture is suggested to improve the CLR performance degradation caused by channel bit errors. The recommended error control scheme for CBR traffic is the concatenated forward error correction (FEC) scheme to make the physical layer as SONET-like as possible. It is confirmed that CLR performance of the network with the recommended scheme is superior to those of access networks with conventional schemes
