The recent advances in embedded computer electronics and wireless communications are enabling cost-effective digital and wireless video surveillance. The forthcoming integration of wireless communications and surveillance systems is a demanding and interesting research topic. In this paper we review some of the key issues that are related to the integration and give a framework for the future system. We also point out where the generic wireless multimedia communication solutions have problems in meeting very strong AVS requirements
