This paper presents the conception and the development of an experimental testbed for the study of Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) over asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) environments, in the scope of the MEDIA (MARS Extensions Developed for IPv6 over ATM) project. The MEDIA project proposes and explores a number of extensions to the existing IP over ATM multicasting solutions, that make use of the advantages offered by IPv6 and by user network interface version 4.0 (UNIv4) specifications. The proposed architecture accommodates both the integrated services model and the differentiated services model. This study gives special attention to multicast environments
